Mrs Jennie Lake, in her husband's words, was more gifted with discernment than he was. The example he gave was this: when ministering to the sick in his office on a daily basis, he would have them line up and he would lay hands on them one after the other as they passed by him. Some got healed instantly, some had partial healing and yet others got nothing at all. He would send those who didn't get healed to another room, and this was where Jennie Lake would come in.
She would go to the first person and tell him, "you cheated one Mr John of 20 pounds 12 years ago, God wants you to go and make restitution". She would go to the next person and tell her, "you're committing fornication with your husband's friend, God wants you to repent of that, confess your sins and turn your life over to him". She'd go to the third and say, "you have refused to believe, you think it's all a facade".
On and on she would go down the line; telling each one specific details of why they were not healed the first time, revealing the very secrets of their hearts that were previously unknown to any man. There were those who shrank away from that light, refused to repent or realign or believe. They went away bearing the infirmities with which they came. There were others who seemed to repent, but not genuinely so. Many others - several of them in tears - repented, realigned and responded in faith and obedience; and they did get healed.
She was a housewife and a pastor's wife; but more importantly, she was a woman who gave herself to the Lord and to the people. She prayed, she also cooked for the sick who came to her front lawn every morning. Perhaps, before you go, you might be interested in reading about an incident that happened when she and her husband were on their way to South Africa, having to believe God for funds for every step of the journey.
Her husband had taken their clothes to the drycleaner and forgotten about them. She reminded him about it the night before their departure on the second leg of the journey. She allowed him to be momentarily alarmed, only to tell him she had taken care of things. No money, but she prayed to the Lord and then went to the drycleaner to ask what the bill was. "A dollar and a half", came the reply. She stepped out of the shop, and on the street, a man came to her, saying "I feel like I'm supposed to give you $1.50".
Her husband was a seer by the Spirit. She was a seer by the Spirit, a seer with the eyes of faith, and a seer of the needs of men, never shied away from them. You, the new (Kainos) creation in Christ, can be a seer too, by the same Holy Spirit, the same faith, the same compassion.
Light dawns!
We see!
